Join us for our free, guided kayak/canoe paddles on Thursdays. We will pass through various local conservation lands, including some of our own Westerly Land Trust preserves. The paddle times will be between 1 ½ to 3 hours. We will meet at put in points and carpool to takeout sites unless otherwise stated. We will shuttle vehicles at 9:30 AM except as noted below. Be aware that our trips leave promptly. Bring your own kayak/canoe, paddle, life jacket, whistle, water, snacks, etc. Some of us will go swimming. See www.westerlylandtrust.org for more details.
August 27 9:00 AM shuttle; launch @ 9:30 AM Woodville to Alton Dam
Put in on left bank below the bridge. The river runs deep and the current is steady. Marshy areas attract birds, and iris and pickerelweed are common in season. Mountain laurel is spectacular in June. Below Woodville the river makes a sharp turn to the left. The dead end millrace runs straight ahead. A weedy section of flat water (usually with a head wind) precedes the dam. Meet by bridge and dam on Woodville Road in Woodville. Takeout is at Alton Dam. Directions: Directions below were taken from Wood River Evergreens website on 07/09/11 which is across the street from where we launch.
PLEASE NOTE:- PFD's: Personal flotation devices or Life Jackets MUST be worn by all our paddlers properly zipped and/or buckled at all times while on the water, in the manner intended by the manufacturer. Persons not willing to follow this requirement are not permitted on our trips. Inflatable PFD's are NOT allowed.
- Sound signal (whistle, horn, etc.) is required.
- If weather is questionable, contact leader.
- Boat ramps can normally be used to launch canoes and kayaks but keep the boat ramp clear for boat trailers.
