Join us for our free, guided kayak/canoe paddles on Thursdays. We will pass through various local conservation lands, including some of our own Westerly Land Trust preserves. The paddle times will be between 1 ½ to 3 hours. We will meet at put in points and carpool to takeout sites unless otherwise stated. We will shuttle vehicles at 9:30 AM except as noted below. Be aware that our trips leave promptly Bring your own kayak/canoe, paddle, life jacket, whistle, water, snacks, etc. Some of us will go swimming. See www.westerlylandtrust.org for more details.
July 9 10:00 AM - Tucker Pond
We will launch @ 10:00 AM – no car shuttle. A beautiful, relaxing paddle for a mid-summer day, said to be the site of the largest stand of rosebay rhododendrons north of the Southern Appalachians. These are beautiful late bloomers, peaking late June to early July. Wear your swim suit and bring lunch/chair, for a leisurely picnic and swim afterwards. Directions from Westerly: Route 1N -about 10 mi. from Walmart to a left exit onto Route 110 for approx. 4 miles. At blinking light, right onto Tuckertown Road, then 1/2 mi. to fisherman's access on right.
PLEASE NOTE:- PFD's: Personal flotation devices or Life Jackets MUST be worn by all our paddlers properly zipped and/or buckled at all times while on the water, in the manner intended by the manufacturer. Persons not willing to follow this requirement are not permitted on our trips. Inflatable PFD's are NOT allowed.
- Sound signal (whistle, horn, etc.) is required.
- If weather is questionable, contact leader.
- Boat ramps can normally be used to launch canoes and kayaks but keep the boat ramp clear for boat trailers.
