SRIV TO HOST WINE & BEER TASTING EVENT ON JULY 25
Southern RI Volunteers will host Bottles & Brews, their 6th annual wine and beer tasting fundraiser, on Friday, July 25 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the Westerly Yacht Club.
Vendors will provide samplings of the latest wines, beers and spirits to guests while food selections are catered by two local businesses. Musical entertainment, a silent auction and the popular 50/50 raffle will also be featured during the event. “The support we receive from our vendors, sponsors and guests for this important event, in such a lovely waterfront setting is so impressive. It really is such a delightful and fun evening. ” said Kara Scott, Board President.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Southern RI Volunteers’ independent aging programs in Washington County and Jamestown. Services provided to elderly, disabled and home-bound individuals include regular delivery of Meals on Wheels and food items from local food pantries, rides for grocery shopping, transportation for medical appointments, minor home repairs, respite for full-time caregivers, and friendly visitors who provide companionship to alleviate the sense of isolation.
For over 34 years, Southern RI Volunteers (formerly Seniors Helping Others) has coordinated over 600 active volunteers who are placed in a variety of positions where they provide tens of thousands of hours of service each year in the nine towns of Washington County and Jamestown. In addition to the Independent Aging Services, SRIV provides emergency preparedness, response and recovery support during disasters and times of crisis in our community. For instance, following the floods that occurred in March, 2010 that severely impacted the Westerly-Pawcatuck area, SRIV coordinated 15 trucks and 25 volunteers to deliver food, cleaning supplies, drinking water, clothing and other critical items to the shelter at the Community Center, area churches, the Johnnycake Center of Bradford and the Warm Shelter. The range of volunteer opportunities available through SRIV include educational and mentoring support, conservation and environmental stewardship, help at soup kitchens, hospitals, schools, affordable housing and homeless shelter, pet care and animal rescue, museums, libraries, the arts and cultural attractions, youth outreach activities, blood drives, food drives, and special events such as the Washington County Fair, and more!
