Auditions for twelfth NightDescription
THE CHORUS OF WESTERLY
Auditions announced for The Chorus of Westerly's 40th and Final
'A Celebration of Twelfth Night' - December 6/7 in Westerly
The Chorus of Westerly announces open community auditions on December 6 and 7 in the George Kent Performance Hall for its upcoming January 2015 production of A Celebration of Twelfth Night. Twelfth Night 2015 will be an important and historic production for the Chorus of Westerly as it marks both the celebratory 40th edition of the show as well as the final Twelfth Night production for the foreseeable future.
For the upcoming Twelfth Night, the Chorus is looking for dozens of potential community actors, dancers, and gymnasts of all ages for a variety of roles. Auditions for these roles will take place in the George Kent Performance Hall, 119 High Street, Westerly, and will be held at the following times:
Saturday, December 6, 2014
10 am to 12 pm, 1 pm to 2:30 pm – Actors of all ages
2:30 pm to 3 pm – Gymnasts of all ages
3 pm to 5 pm - Dancers of all ages
Sunday, December 7, 2014
12 pm to 1:30 pm – Actors of all ages who absolutely cannot come on Saturday
1:30 pm to 3 pm – Gymnasts and Dancers who absolutely cannot come on Sunday
Callbacks, if necessary, for all actors would be from 3 pm to 5 pm
For actors of all ages, there are no advance sign-ups or reservations for audition times. Actors are encouraged to simply come to Kent Hall at some point during the designated actor audition times. Your time at the hall for the audition, including wait time, can be anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes (depending on the volume of people auditioning). Actors do not need to prepare any material in advance. Child actors should come to the audition with a parent.
For gymnasts and dancers, there are no advance sign-ups or reservations for audition times. Gymnasts and dancers are strongly encouraged to come on Saturday if at all possible. Gymnasts should be prepared to stay the entire half an hour of their audition segment. Dancers should be prepared to stay the entire 90 minutes of their audition segment. For both gymnasts and dancers, no advance preparation is required, but please come stretched and warmed up.
Advanced and experienced actors with notable experience who cannot attend auditions on the posted dates may submit material and resumes to the Chorus for consideration. Materials must be sent to the Chorus, to the attention of Ryan Saunders, no later than Friday, December 5, 2014.
Actors, gymnasts, and dancers who are cast in the show must be available for rehearsals starting on December 26, 2014 and lasting through the opening of the show on January 9. During school vacation week, rehearsals for children and teenagers are scheduled in daytime and early evening hours. Once school is back in session after the New Year, rehearsals shift to late afternoon and early evening leading up to performance weekend. Most adult rehearsals are in the late afternoon and evenings.
Community actors are not compensated for being a part of Twelfth Night if cast.

The Chorus of Westerly, directed by Andrew Howell, is a multi-faceted performing arts organization based in Westerly, Rhode Island. Founded in 1959, the Chorus of Westerly, a fully auditioned ensemble, represents that nation's only independent intergenerational chorus. This means that the 80 child members of the Chorus (ages 8 to 18) sing alongside the 110 adult members of the ensemble on every performance of the season regardless of work, difficultly, or demands. This is a practice that is rare in the American choral music and makes the Chorus unique among its peers. The Chorus of Westerly's performance season now includes several 'Classical' concert series, a Christmas Pops series, five performances of A Celebration of Twelfth Night, an annual Summer Pops concert in Wilcox Park (with audiences annually of 20,000 to 25,000), and several choral workshop programs and camps. The Chorus, owners and operators of the historic George Kent Performance Hall, also presents annually a Collegiate Concert Series featuring the finest student a cappella concerts in the country, and the Kent Hall Masters Series which features some of the best professional musical ensembles in the world. In addition to its performance offerings at Kent Hall, the Chorus of Westerly recently launched its Community Music Program, a new music education program designed to offer more artistic opportunities to the greater Westerly region. Offerings within the program include a youth orchestra, music and movement classes for young children, vocal classes for adult and teen singers, and music theory classes at Kent Hall. The Chorus has toured internationally three times in its history, twice to Great Britain and once to Italy. The Chorus will engage its fourth international tour in July 2014 to Austria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic.
